Useful Tools to Know About

Citation Guides & Manuals

The library has a few quick reference guides for citation manuals on-line. For more complex citations, you will need to consult a manual.

The library has citation manuals available at the Reference Desk (APA, MLA, etc.). Look them up in Cruzcat and ask for them at the Reference Desk.

Citation Software

There is software, some for a fee and some for free, that will capture citations and format your bibliography for you. The differences among the various for fee and free options are in the features and technical support offered or available.
  • EndNote - is sold by the campus bookstore.

  • Zotero (a Firefox browser plug-in) - is free.
These are handy tools and are worth exploring.

On-line Word Processing Tools

If you are working away from your computer, these free (you need to register for an account) on-line word processing tools allow you to work on your research and then download your work from your web account to your home computer.

These tools also allow for collaboration. You may open up your documents to individuals OR to the world - if you choose to publish the document to the web. The two tools I am most familiar with are listed below.

Google Docs -
Google allows its users storage of up to 5,000 documents and 5,000 images. See Google's privacy policy here.

Zoho Writer -
In its Beta form (now), Zoho Writer is offering unlimited storage space to its users. Once the application is out of beta testing the limit will be 1 GB of storage space. See Zoho's privacy policy here.
